INSOMNIA

Well, I've been thinking all week about how to explain my INSOMNIA problems, without being too technical or too boring. It seems difficult, however. In essence, I go to sleep early (around 9 or 10 pm) and if I wake up at 11:00 or 12:00, I cannot sleep again. It's become such a problem that everyone in my house is trying to be careful not to wake me up, because sometimes that is the only sleep I will get throughout the whole night. A couple of weeks ago I slept like 16 hours for the whole week.

I went to the doctor for some other problem, but this issue came up, and she had me get some lab tests done. It seems that everything is all right, but I guess we will have a follow up appointment and she will give me something so i can sleep better.

Well... this hardly explains the whole problem OR the consequences... believe me, they are EXTREME sometimes. Not being able to sleep is catastrophic. It's hard to even be able to talk to others without barking at them.

Anyway, my son --who also has a bit of an insomnia sometimes, wrote a poem. Well, he wrote a few, but this one specifically got him a diploma as an "outstanding young author" and a special field trip to HORATIO'S RESTAURANT. I am copying it here, and anyone who reads it please have in mind that David did not speak English one year and a half ago. So it's quite surprising for the language, and because he explains the insomniac mind in just a few words, and maybe better than I could ever!!!

WHY CAN'T I SLEEP AT NIGHT?
By David Hernandez

Why can't I sleep at night?
Sleep is a wonderful word.
I would rather sleep than work.
Work is dull.
Dull makes me bored.
Bored is not fun.

Fun is cool.
Cool is so good.
Pudding is good.
Pudding is brown.
It is brown like the ground
The ground is where you walk or run.
I don't want to run.
I want to sleep...
Sleep, what a wonderful word.
